Reasons for Site Inspection:
HWC reviewed the application for the proposed additions and alterations and approved the permit application. However HWC noted that the street in question has a high sensitivity to archaeology. The case officer went to investigate the site whether the site has archaeological sensitivity.
Findings of Site Inspection:
HWC case dug small 10x10cm test holes in parts of the site where the new additional structures will be built. The case officer only found sterile sand in both the front and the back. However tiny pieces of shell did emerge from the top back fill sand front garden area. From the property walkthrough, pieces of shell were more evident on the surface near the wall and front garden but most likely had original from elsewhere as the soil type was not the same as what was underneath. In conclusion there is a little to no chance of archaeological material that might be impacted by the proposed development.
Recommended Action:
It is little chance of archaeological material that will be uncovered or impacted by the proposed development however should archaeological material be uncovered all work must stop and the HWC official must be contacted immediately.
