Reasons for Site Inspection:
A heritage impact assessment was submitted to HWC for the proposed retirement village on above-mentioned erven to support the Schoenstatt Estate. The Impact Assessment Committee wanted a clearer indication of the impact the development will have on the environs especially in regards to the historic Schoenstatt Estate. In order to assess this fully, as it would be mainly an impact to the sense of place; the Committee decided to conduct a site inspection.
Findings of Site Inspection:
The development lies in a context that is fairly semi-urban and the main heritage resource that will be impact by the development will be the visual context and sense of place of the graves parallel to the south-west corner of the development. Other than this, the development is well setback from the rest of the significant Schoenstatt Estate.
Recommended Action:
The Committee will discuss the findings of the site inspection at the next IACOM meeting on the 10 August 2016.
