Statement on Main Aims of Organisation:

As an organisation, the Cape Institute for Architecture (CIFA) seeks to ensure that the architectural heritage of the province is cared for, so that it can be appreciated for generations to come. Heritage is, or should be, the subject of active public debate and discussion. Active public and professional discussion about heritage – by individuals, groups, communities, and nations – is a crucial aspect of public life in our multicultural society. The Institute is an important contributor to that debate. Our voices and comments help to stimulate debates that we trust will promote excellence within our built environment.

Categories of Heritage:

CIFA’s Heritage Review Committee is interested in commenting on applications were changes to significant architectural resources are proposed: - Substantial alterations to a resource of noted architectural significance. - Substantial impact to the surrounds of a site that are or include resources of substantial architectural, townscape, and/or cultural landscape significance. - Alterations to an architectural resource or a townscape that could be seen to be controversial.
