Parkscape represents a substantial community with a particular concern for the interface between the City of Cape Town and the Table Mountain National Park. Our Vision is 'to create community-focussed safe, biodiverse, open and shaded parkscape in the buffer zones of Table Mountain National Park where Park meets urban edge'. Official studies have identified sections of these buffer zones as important cultural landscapes that form part of the national estate, as identified by Section 3(2) of the National Heritage Resources Act (NHRA) (Act 25 of 1999). Section 3(2), for example, includes historical settlements, townscapes, landscapes and natural features of cultural significance as part of the national estate, requiring protection in terms of the Act. Examples include the Constantia-Tokai Valley, which has been described as 'an irreplaceable national asset of great historic, cultural, productive and aesthetic significance' (Constantia-Tokai Valley - Local Area Growth Management Development Plan, Final Report, MLH Architects and Planners et al, July 1992). Parkscape therefore wishes to register as a conservation body with an interest in both geographical areas and categories of heritage resources in terms of Section 25(1)(b)(i) and (ii).
